Tiruncula

March 15th, 2005 · 1 Comment

Just stumbled over a blog, Tiruncula, while browsing from recently updated typepad blogs.  I love this quote from the post Where you teach and what you write:
"I loved grad school, but it must be said that grad students and their
professors are each other’s enablers in the business of making everyone
feel the depth of their [...]

Unhappy about removing post

March 15th, 2005 · Comments Off

Just removed a post for the 1st time—one from around my birthday.  I’m not very happy about it to say the least!  It said something I think needed to be said but as it involved someone else…  This person did not ask me to remove it, but they also didn’t know it existed.  It took [...]

Effervescing Elephant

March 14th, 2005 · 1 Comment

I had to tell my 2nd story in Storytelling today.  Since my other efforts didn’t pan out I had to switch focus—my recently decided 3rd story became my learn it immediately 2nd story.
I told Effervescing Elephant which is track 12 (last) of Syd Barrett’s 2nd solo album (both in 1970).
In class we pegged it [...]

Nix on Storytime

March 10th, 2005 · 1 Comment

Alright, it’s not that drastic.  I went and talked to Betsy today about my story for Monday.  We decided it’s best not to go with it and me as we are.  She thought it was good and has nice structure but is a bit preachy, complicated, and if I can’t get through it emotionally (probably [...]

How Typepad works

March 9th, 2005 · Comments Off

OK, finally finished my Gorman post that I started on 5 Mar and posted it.
Seems Typepad does post-date it as of the date/time of the 1st draft status.  That’s OK I guess for this, but it is something to keep in mind.  I just hope people don’t think that I just got around to [...]

Use and Users of information / Leckie; et al.

March 8th, 2005 · Comments Off

NOTE:  Part of response to readings for week 5, Sep 24th 2004, LIS 501 (1 of 2 required courses) last fall.
Leckie gives us the "expert researcher" model to highlight the difference between faculty member and undergraduate understanding of the research process, particularly within a discipline. This understanding, although only a model, makes very good sense [...]

Trouble with my story

March 8th, 2005 · 1 Comment

I’m having a difficult time finding a story that I’ll be able to make it through for next week.  I’m trying to pick something very close to the bone personally but I need to be able to get through it emotionally.  It doesn’t seem as if I’m ready to do this in a group this [...]

LEEP Weekend

March 5th, 2005 · Comments Off

LEEP Weekend was this weekend as I’ve mentioned.  It is always an event.  Last fall I mainly treated it like the work experience that it was, although I had some good coffee and great conversation with Ginger and Dawn who were in one of classes I broadcasted.
This time I made it social besides work.  I [...]

Uses and users of information / Kuhlthau

March 5th, 2005 · Comments Off

NOTE:  Part of response to readings for week 3, Sep 10th 2004, LIS 501 (1 of 2 required courses) last fall.
Kuhlthau’s model of the information search process is the key idea that I want to focus on. As to the article at large, I think it a wonderful piece that puts research that has had [...]

Was that a conversation Mr. Gorman?

March 5th, 2005 · Comments Off

Because if that is what you wanted you could have gotten it off to a better start. A lot has been said since Gormangate, as it is being called, broke the evening of 24 Feb according to my aggregator. [I guess I'll leave that sentence ambiguous as according to my aggregator the story [...]
