For those of you keeping track of movies with librarians I have a new one for you:
Over her dead body, directed by Desiree Herrera. Copyright 2006 Skittblink Productions.
This movie (running time 48:49) was made at Oberlin College during Winter Term 2006 by a group of Obie students.
It is a fun romp of a vampire-zombie movie, shot in black & white, silent with title cards and with music added in.
The main stars are Carly Trumann, Steven Bagley and Sara Lindner. Yes, one of those names should be somewhat familiar, or at least recognizable, to readers of this blog. My daughter plays the lead zombie, lesbian love interest.
Some of my favorite “dialogue” is:
“You’re a vampire? Is that … vegan?”
“One second. I have just the book.”
“Blood? Brains? That’s SO not vegan!”
And my most favorite title card of all:
“” … “”
Those of you who remember the title of my previous blog, or who have noticed my frequent use of ellipses, might understand why I love that one so much.
There are two chapters of particular relevance to librarians-in-movies aficionados, 7 Reference Librarian and 16 Reference Librarian Redux. The Sexy Librarian is played by Meg Brown. Meg was Sara’s roommate for the last year+ of their time at Oberlin, and Meg is starting the conservation program at UT-Austin this fall. So for once, a movie librarian will become a librarian in real life. [By the way, The Sexy Librarian is how she is credited in the credits. I'm not being perverted.]
I think Meg does a great job playing, and playing with, the bun wearing, letting her hair down transformation stereotype.
I’m not sure exactly how one can get a copy of this movie, as mine was hand delivered. But according to an email Sara sent earlier, interested parties should send an email to count.macula@gmail.com.
And yes, my local zombie-loving friends, we will have a screening just as soon as I get the apartment arranged, or sooner if someone wants to host before then.
It may be obscure, it may be hard to obtain, it may not be big budget or from a major studio, but if you consider yourself a completist in your tracking of librarians-in-movies then you best add Over her dead body, © 2006.
