Firefox 2 and Zotero

Between yesterday afternoon and evening I got both the PowerBook and the PC desktop upgraded to Firefox 2. All went smoothly; I only lost a couple extensions that aren’t that necessary. I did lose the UIUC Firefox toolbar extension. It can be useful, but I have a link to the Library Gateway on my browser start page.

Just a few minutes ago I installed Zotero on the Mac. Seems like it could be useful. I have stuff spread across EndNote (on the PC), RefWorks, multiple hard drives and now Zotero. It doesn’t appear that it will (automatically) help me control all the stuff on my laptop. It certainly has a ways to go before it can be “the answer.” For now, I’ll have to decide if it is the best partial answer.

  1. The only problem I’m having with Firefox 2 right now is that I have to click twice on email in Express to get it to open. The first click just bumps me up the page; the second click (after I’ve scrolled back down to the email) will actually open it. This happens on Windows and Mac. The other annoyance is that my Tab Mix Plus extension isn’t working yet. The new Firefox tab setup is great, but it is still missing a few things I’d like to have. Other than that, yay!

  2. That is odd! It happens on neither Windows or OSX for me.

I don’t know Tab Mix Plus. The only slightly useful one that didn’t upgrade for me was the UIUC Toolbar. I hadn’t become convinced that it was useful for me yet, compared to the amount of window space lost to another toolbar. But then, as I said, I have a link to the gateway on my start page. How many info freaks can say that?

Is it just CITES Express that does that?

  3. Thanks for the update, Lisa! I had been missing the Library Toolbar–even if I only used it infequently–since I upgraded to FF 2.0.

I’ll check out some of the other tools. They seem as if they could be very useful, although they don’t (currently) fit my working habits.
