Thank you, thank you, thank you Kurt!

The only (simple) thing I cannot swear to have tried yesterday was found by Kurt to fix my missing archives page. Heck, he even had his beer before I met him at the bar, so it didn’t cost me anything but a little time (and clearly less of that than I had spent already myself).

Once we got the archives back on the old template, we then switched to the new one. We got the archives there, too, after some fiddling, and then we got the contact page too!

I uploaded a couple headers and I’ve just uploaded the header.php file that controls the random header images. There are currently 7 photos, five are default and 2 are mine. The purple flowers and bee, and the slice of a Chicago building’s windows are mine. Over the last few days I’ve made 34 header images. I need to rename them, upload them, and then change the max number in the random image controller section of the header.php file.

Some of the photos I used to make headers are mine, some are not. I believe I have permission to use them all, with credit, of course. I want to verify the status of them all and also find some way to list all of the credits, as applicable.

So, I know most of you read this in a feed reader, but feel free to click through and have a look. Also, just hit refresh on your browser and the images should change.

Cutline. A nice theme that looks to only get better. Thank you Chris Pearson!

Update:  Just uploaded 7 more pics of mine and changed the random number to 14.  Seems to be working fine.  Yay!  Next step will be what I said above, and to remove the default images, although I find the dog kind cute.  And yes, there are 2 bee and purple flowers shots and 3 from the same building in Chicago; they are just different slices from 2 photos.

I’ll also look into possibly changing the default font, especially in the title. Also, adding my subtitle in would be nice.  But for now, I’m happy!  I can go to Austin now feeling a lot better.

Nice! (I turned off my forced-typeface setting to see what you’ve actually done.) Another blogger goes against the Received Wisdom that all web content should be sans serif. And the random photos in a nicely-shaped header work well.

Thanks Walt! I still want to find out exactly which font, if any, it is defaulting too and possibly change it.

Again, I haven’t done a lot yet. Really, I only got the Archives and Contact page working (with Kurt’s help) and I added some pictures. Thus, there may be some more to do, but it’ll have to wait for after ASIS&T and school work, of course. That means Fall Break or between the semesters at the earliest.

Congrats on getting everything working, Mark!

I’d just like to point out that the default font for text is Georgia, a serif font that was developed especially for the Web by Microsoft in 1997.

There are a couple of places in the stylesheet where you’ll need to change references to Georgia in order to use a different font. However, if you’d like to do a quick (albeit somewhat inconclusive) fix, you can simply change the font reference for the body within style.css.

It’s the first non-commented line of CSS within the stylesheet, so it should be pretty easy to find.

    Enjoy!

Thanks goes to you, Chris! Also, thanks for the info on the font. I’m good with Georgia, and that is what I thought it was. I’ve been using it as my default font in Word on my Mac for a while now.
