ASIS&T 2006 was great! I met so many wonderful people. (Jenn and Ben, where are you guys? I miss you!) I met and/or saw massively big “names.”
I’m now at the Austin Hostel sitting outside using their wireless ($1/day) running my battery down. Tomorrow morning I head to the airport and get home fairly late thanks to an almost 5 hour layover at O’Hare.
I (sort of) apologize for not blogging much, but if it really bothers you then come yourself next time. As I said in my previous post, see Christina’s blog for posts on the conference. I did finally get to spend a few minutes talking with her this morning, to my distinct pleasure. I do have some notes and will try to get some stuff up “soon.” Of course, I have lots of schoolwork and housework and other things which must take priority. I also still have a good 80 or so photos to post (Oops! I’m uploading a bunch right now and I just took another 115 off of the camera.) So, “soon” is a very relative term.
Last night at SIG-CON, which is the humorous bit of ASIS&T, the newest (completely unofficial, for now) SIG—SIG-TAG—participated in SIG-CON. We wandered around the party with markers and post-its asking people if they wanted to tag things, or tagging things ourselves. Yours truly placed an antelope tag on Michael Buckland. Oh yes. I really did! I figured if the “bigwigs” could show slides about “squirrel sex” (sorry, you had to be there; or wait for me to post those photos) then I could tag Michael Buckland.
I had great conversations with people of all ages, statuses, and from all over. It really was an incredible time. I think I got myself on the Standards Committee but I’m not sure.
I went to the Education Committee meeting first, but almost no one, and no one official, showed up. I gave them a shot at me first…. I can hardly wait for ASIS&T 2007 in Milwaukee. I truly believe that I have found an organizational home.
OK, battery’s almost dead. Night all.
I truly believe that I have found an organizational home.
you said it there Mark. I’ll see you in Milwaukee.
I’m using the “SIGTAG” tag on my flickr tags, too. And will look into starting our group blog. This will be fun, fringe and unofficial or further up… it’s all good with me.
TAG = “Taxonomies are Great?”
I can’t wait to see all your flower photos. RAWK.
Have a good trip home!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the conference and it was *my* pleasure to talk to you! I hope to see you next year, too.
