I do not know how many GSLIS/UIUC folks read this, especially in a timely manner, but here we go anyway.
Dr. Pauline Atherton Cochrane will speak to our ASIS&T chapter tomorrow evening, Mon. 16 Apr at 6:15 PM. Her talk is entitled, “From B.C. to A.D. (Bibliographies and Catalogs to After Digitization).”
I am going to be blunt here. If you can possibly make this talk and do not, you are not half as intelligent as you (or anyone else) think you are! No matter what your specialty in LIS may be, if you do not spend every minute you can learning from this treasure of a LIS pioneer you are simply clueless.
As Allen Renear likes to say, “Once someone finds out which time frame you attended GSLIS, they will ask you if you had any classes with Pauline.” The (correct) implication being that anyone who asks this question will not think very highly of a no answer.
Now, I do not think everyone needs to take Pauline’s classes, but at least you could say that you attended her lectures. And that is clearly what I think you ought to do.
If room 109 in GSLIS is not overflowing (forcing us to move somewhere larger) tomorrow evening then we have a serious problem with our student body. I certainly hope any interested faculty show up, too. Of course, I imagine it will be LEEP broadcast so I expect all my LEEP buddies and many I haven’t yet met to show up, too. I’m not sure how well this has been advertised and that may have an impact on attendance but, nonetheless, if that room isn’t overflowing we have a serious problem.

Whimper. But I’m supposed to go practice for the Storytelling Festival tomorrow night too! Dammit.
But when I saw the announcement, I told myself that if we aren’t practicing in the room where the Fest is being held (126), then I have no need to attend because the acoustics won’t be right, and that’s what I’m most worried about at the moment. How’s that? Because I’d really, really like to come listen to Pauline.

The world is not a pretty place sometimes, even to the pretty people. There are, of course, contingencies and obstacles.
In your case, there will always be the archive. But, unless one has a good reason–Jenn does–to miss the live event, one should not. You cannot ask questions of the archive.

So it seems that only people named Jenn, Jenny, or Jennifer respond to this. I guess since the first two are taken, I’ll adopt the less familiar Jennifer…
I’m sad to say that I have yet to attend a talk. It is to my detriment, I know. But I’ll be at Pauline’s talk. Aside from it sounding interesting, it would be very, very bad for me to miss it, seeing as she’s my instructor for my independent study.

Hey Jenny, it is my assumption–and I recognize the issue there–that it will be broadcast live and archived as our meetings usually are any more. The one to really ask would be Richard, but he was just getting back from a conference today and may be at the Decemberists this eve if he git home in time.
Hi Jennifer, that’s because everyone I know is named Jen, Jenn, Jennifer, Jenny, Jenica or something else.
I do hope the 1st and middle clauses of your last sentence are your prime motivators.
But I agree with your last clause, too.

Hmmm does that mean I should post this as Jennifard? Richifer?
Anticipating a large crowd this has been moved to 131.
And it will be Live in the ASIS&T Moodle classroom if you have access. (but not publicly broadcast)

Your appellation is of your own choosing in my world. Of course (or curse) others are free to apply their appellations of choice to you, too.
Thanks for the update on location and clarification of broadcast status.
